Mike is an Oxford-educated scientist, and a Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and European Trade Mark Attorney.

Mike’s particular expertise lies in patents (particularly portfolio management, search quality, translation problems and national security); training of IP professionals; licensing and competition law; legal professional privilege for IP advice; and the administrative infrastructure for IP strategy and services.

Career history

From 1988 to 2009, Mike headed successively the IP departments of Metal Box plc, CMB Packaging SA, British Telecommunications plc and BAE Systems plc. He has previous IP experience in private practice and in the chemical industry.

From 2003 to 2005, Mike was President of the IP Federation. He is currently a Vice-Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Intellectual Property Commission.

Since 2010, he has lectured and written on intellectual property. In late 2013, he published a large book "Inside intellectual property - best practice in intellectual property law, management, and strategy", which has received very good reviews including 'This well-written and readable book [is] a "must have" for all IP practitioners of whatever nationality and wherever they practise world-wide'.
