Gareth is an experienced Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney, handling a wide variety of subject matter including physics, electronics, mobile communications, computing (hardware and software) and mechanical devices.

He is involved in advising clients on all aspect of Intellectual Property and has experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a wide variety of organisations, from large multinational corporations to SMEs. He has extensive experience of handling international patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions including the UK, Europe, the US and the Far East, being involved in both IP strategy and ongoing management.

Gareth's professional interests have always been to provide a commercially focused and practical service to his clients - irrespective of whether those clients are blue chip multinationals or small start-ups. He currently has a particular interest in the UK Patent Box regime, helping companies understand and benefit from this.

Career history

Following his BSc (Hons) in Physics with Space Science and Systems at the University of Kent, Gareth joined the UK Defence Evaluation & Research Agency ( ‘DERA’ ) ( which subsequently became QinetiQ ), working as a scientist and operational analyst in the fields of military aerospace and space technology. 

He subsequently trained as a Patent Attorney, working with a number of well regarded IP firms in the UK, gaining exposure to a diverse client base and different working practices. He joined K2 IP in 2015.

He regularly tutors on the highly regarded JDD residential patent training course course for attorney candidates taking the CIPA P2 'Practice' paper and is currently an Examiner for P2 (FD1) UK patent attorney finals examination.
