Jo is one of the partners in the Engineering Group at Keltie and is also a K2 Network Attorney. Jo has worked as a qualified attorney in the engineering field for 20 years. She has a particular specialism in the field of automotive engineering, in particular fuel injection systems and injection control strategies, powertrain systems, brakes and cooling systems, vehicle and engine control systems, including navigation systems, and vehicle accessories. Jo has worked with several prominent and multi-national companies working in the automotive sector and has managed their extensive, global patent portfolios. She has also advised on infringement and freedom-to-operate strategies.

Jo has spent time on secondment at a UK-based engineering site to devise successful invention harvesting strategies and invention processing procedures for engineering teams, as well as advising senior management on patent strategy. She has more recently developed secondment arrangements at engineering sites for several of her team to benefit the client’s IP activities. Jo has successfully defended a number of automotive-related patents during Opposition and Appeal proceedings at the EPO.

In the wider engineering field, Jo also has experience of aerospace actuation and fuelling systems and sensor technology. Before moving into private practice, Jo worked in the patents team for QinetiQ where she gained experience in a wide range of physics technology areas, including semiconductor devices, telecommunications, liquid crystal display devices, metal detection and infra-red camera technology.

The Legal 500 2015 states that Jo "shows good understanding of technology and business constraints."

Prior to her career in IP, Jo graduated in Physics from Birmingham University with First Class Honours. She stayed at Birmingham University to complete a PhD in nuclear structure physics, where she worked as part of an international collaboration investigating nuclear break-up reactions.
